Fairy Tale Bathrooms

We recently enjoyed watching the film Into the Woods.  Have you seen it?   With a glittering cast, including Emily Blunt, James Corden, Helen Mirren and Johnny Depp, the story is based on a fascinating combination of characters from different fairy tales with the plots of each becoming increasingly intertwined.   There’s Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood all jumbled up with predictably complicated results!  But it got us thinking if fairy tales were realistic enough to include details such as bathrooms, what kind of features would be important?

Cinderella

Let’s start with everyone’s favourite!   We reckon a walk in shower is just what Cinderella needs to get her to the ball on time!  When every minute counts, a walk in shower is perfect.   Literally step straight into it – you don’t even need to open a door! – and you’re well on the way to getting scrubbed up.  We love this example on the right from a project we did to fit a master en suite wet room .  We’re pleased to say that this walk in shower is equally wonderful for those times when you want to relax and just let the cares of the day wash away – it even has heated seating!  The shower is finished to perfection with Premium Silver Grey limestone tiles and Farrow & Ball All White paint.

Rapunzel

Screen Shot 2015-07-18 at 14.09.34You may remember the story of poor Rapunzel, incarcerated in a tower in the middle of the woods. The one-roomed tower has no door or stairs, and just one window.  The only means of access to the tower is to climb up Rapunzel’s incredibly long hair!  This scenario might admittedly present a few challenges in terms of plumbing but, assuming that this can somehow be overcome, then what Rapunzel needs is a beautiful bath.  Her hair would be somewhat of a hazard in the shower but could hang over the side of a stone bath such as the one pictured here.   As our name implies, we love stone, and this natural material would fit perfectly into any setting such as Rapunzel’s ancient tower.  The image here is of a stunning volcanic limestone Victoria And Albert Amalfi slipper bath in a contemporary farmhouse bathroom we fitted.

Snow White

Those memorable words “mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” can still send shivers down many a spine!  Snow White’s wicked stepmother needs easy access to a large mirror in order to be able to check the quality of her appearance on a regular basis.   The bathroom is an ideal place for this and we love the mirrors in the bathroom shown below left.  There is a large mirror on the left and a smaller one on the wall next to the bath.  Clever use of mirrors in bathrooms can have a transforming effect in terms of creating light and depth in your room.   This classic and traditional master ensuite project was a joy to be involved with!  The master bedroom itself – shown below right – was custom made by our friends at Figura, and leads into the stunning master ensuite which contains a double vanity unit, cast iron bath and then a separate shower and steam room.  Definitely fit for royalty!
