How to bring a touch of summer into your bathroom

Summer is here at last, and our natural reaction is to want to bring a touch of summer into our homes. Whilst it’s easy to see how to do this in living rooms and bedrooms, particularly with soft furnishings and linens, it can feel a bit more difficult with a bathroom. Most items of bathroom furniture and sanitary ware are fixed, so there seems a limited amount that you can do to change things in the short term.

But there are a few things that you can try, and in this article we take a look at three ways to bring a touch of summer into your bathroom.

Let in the light

The more light you can get into your bathroom, the better. So if you have windows, make sure they are unencumbered and can let in as much light as possible. In the stunning porcelain and travertine bathrooms pictured below, the windows have no blinds at all so that the light coming through is maximised.

Time to reflect

In the second image above, the light is further enhanced by being reflected through a bespoke angled backlit mirror. Mirrors really help to lighten and brighten a bathroom, so could be an excellent addition to your bathroom this summer.

We also love the bespoke bevelled mirror pictured below, which opens up the bathroom and reflects the wall mounted lighting around. So even if your bathroom does not have as much natural light as you might like, you can still brighten it with lighting and mirrors.

Bring the outside in

Bringing the outside in is a key interior design trend at the moment. And it fits in particularly well with summer decor. Featuring natural elements and bright summer colours in your bathroom can really make it feel cool, fresh and summery.

Here are a few suggested ways you can do this in your bathroom:

  • Have house plants or flowers artfully placed in your bathroom. Even just one plant or vase of flowers can make a big difference. Also consider artificial plants and flowers: there are some excellent products available now, and they are much easier to maintain.

  • If you have bathroom windows, either place plants on the outside window sills or grow foliage outside so that your eye is drawn to the greenery from inside the bathroom. This can give the illusion of the greenery being actually inside the bathroom, and is an easy way to bring the outside in without having to make any changes to the bathroom itself.

  • Use accessories and decorations with colours that reflect the outdoors. For example bright greens or botanical prints on towels or rugs, or a coastal theme of blue, white and wood throughout your bathroom.
