How to make the most of a small bathroom

What can you really do with a small bathroom? If you are planning to install a new bathroom or upgrade an existing one, and you only have a small space to work with, you may fall into the trap of thinking that your options are limited.

But this is not true! Any bathroom can be stunning, no matter how small it is. The key thing is to get the right help in designing your bathroom to use the space you have effectively. A professionally designed bathroom can ensure that small really is beautiful.

Here are four ways in which you can make the most of a small bathroom.

Don’t leave any dead space

No matter what the shape of your bathroom space, use every inch of it. Don’t leave empty corners or gaps larger than you need: this is just wasting the precious space you have!

The image below shows how we maximised a small bathroom space by installing a walk in shower that has a bespoke sloping door to fit the ceiling. We also created this clever inbuilt seating to cover the staircase below.

Use pale neutral colours

Pale neutral colours work well in small bathrooms because they reflect light and make your bathroom feel more spacious and airy. It also helps if you use the same tiles for walls and floors as this then creates a co-ordinated look which also makes the room appear larger.

The stunning en suite pictured below is tiled throughout in Minoli Moon Onyx for a seamless, minimalistic appearance.

Reflect light around the bathroom

We have already mentioned that pale neutral colours can help to reflect light around your bathroom, but you can enhance this even further with clever use of lighting and mirrors. No matter how much natural light you do or don’t have in your bathroom, bright but tasteful bathroom lighting can make a huge difference, as shown in the bathroom below.

As can be seen from the images above and below, mirrors are also a wonderful way of making your bathroom appear lighter and brighter. So make sure that you make the most of them as the perfect finishing touch to your bathroom design.

Use concealed storage

No matter how beautiful your small bathroom, it will never look its best if it is full of clutter. Your surfaces will look much better – and your bathroom much bigger – if you keep everything clear. But you do need bits and pieces in your bathroom, so what do you do with them?

There are two ways round this. The first is to have clever inbuilt storage. You could either have bespoke cabinets or drawers under the basin, or concealed wall storage behind a mirror, as in the two images below.

The second way round it is to use recessed shelving to tastefully display some of your bathroom items. We love to combine this with our trademark LED lighting, as shown in the image below.
