Top five predictions for trendy bathrooms in 2022

If you are planning a new bathroom in 2022 you may be wondering what are the new trends in bathroom design. In this article we take a look at some of the bathroom trends we think will be popular this year, and show examples of how they could look in your new bathroom.

Bold fixtures

Many bathroom fixtures and fittings have traditionally either been chrome or antique brass. But there is a growing trend for using other material for fixtures, such as matt black and gold. Using a bolder finish can add a distinctive finishing touch to both traditional and contemporary bathroom design.

The compact family bathroom pictured below features brushed black brassware with the ceramic washbasin, enamel bath and contemporary square shower enclosure. Small really can be beautiful with a Stone and Chrome bathroom!

Spathrooms

A growing trend is to model your bathroom on a spa theme. A key element of a spa-inspired bathroom is a minimalist design with sleek smooth lines and natural materials.

The main feature of a spathroom is likely to be a large walk-in showers or wet area. If there is a bath, it should be luxurious rather than purely functional. Everything in this bathroom needs to be both stylish and indulgent.

The luxury family bathroom pictured below has all these features and more. Perfect for creating your own spa experience at home!

Japandi

You may not have come across the word but you will certainly be familiar with the trend. Japandi refers to a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian styles. The result is a timeless look that is beautifully minimalistic.

Expect a mixture of cool neutral Scandinavian tones and stunning Japanese design. There may be dark neutral base colours blended with natural woods and light or white bathroom furniture.

In the bathroom pictured below, there is a wonderful contrast between the dark wall and Breeze bath, both painted in Farrow and Ball Hague Blue, and the clean lines of the rest of the bathroom furniture, particularly the floating double basins.

Bringing the outdoors in

Another trend we are seeing – often in conjunction with spathrooms or Japandi – is that of bringing the outdoors in. This seems to have been particularly influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, and people feeling an increased need to be surrounded by nature.

Bringing the outdoors in can be done in various ways, Either create space in your bathroom for some beautiful plants, use natural materials as much as possible, or consider botanical designs on walls or bathroom furniture.

In the en-suite bathroom pictured below, we love the Honey Ash double basin unit, and also the way the warmth of the bathroom is enhanced by the plentiful natural light.

Vintage look

Adding a vintage look to your bathroom is very on-trend right now. For example, you could use an item of vintage furniture as part of your bathroom design.

Also consider mixing vintage and modern features in your bathroom, for a more eclectic look. This mix and match design style could be applied to bathroom furniture, fixtures and fittings, or a stunning bath.
