If a bathroom refit or update is in your plans for the coming year, it’s time to start gathering ideas. While we think that you can never go wrong with timeless and elegant design, it’s always worth looking at upcoming trends for inspiration. These might highlight something that you’ve not thought of before, or help you to think outside the box. From colours and lighting to materials and furniture, we look at the key bathroom design trends that are on the horizon this year.
Colours
We love to look to Pantone for their colour of the year. This is a great indicator to where colour trends will head over the next 12 months. For 2024, Pantone have chosen Peach Fuzz and said this about their choice:
“PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It’s a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.”
Warmth
While you may or may not want to include peach tones in your bathroom design, it’s clear that there is a very real movement towards warm colours. From wall paint to tile choice to wood finishes, warmer colour hues have a huge impact on the ambience of the bathroom. Warm colour trends really reflect the popularity of turning a bathroom into a regenerative, cosy space.
Marble
Elegant and stylish, marble finishes remain topping the trends into 2024. As a natural stone, its graining can help to increase a sanctuary style concept. Plus, there are a multitude of neutral and warm tones to choose from when you select tiles, counter tops or basin surrounds.
Functionality
Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen the focus of a bathroom move from being a functional, minimalist space to one designed to pamper and refresh. In fact, the phrase ‘spathroom’ has been used by some publications to describe this shift in function. So how does this manifest when it comes to design?
Storage
For a room to feel calming and luxurious, it’s important to avoid clutter. This is why plentiful bathroom storage remains a popular priority. Bespoke bathroom solutions can make sure that you utilise every potential storage area in a room, so that your surfaces remain clear and sleek.
Spa feel
Bathroom design trends are focussed on the senses. Textures, scents and luxury materials all play a part. Smooth marble can sit beautifully alongside warm wood finishes to add a cosiness to the sense of luxury, with space to relax at the heart of the room. Concealed showers are a trend to look out for. These offer a feeling of comfort and privacy, while being the ideal opportunity for recessed storage and clever lighting.
Tiles
Bathroom tiles are a key and enduring element of design. While tile alternatives are sometimes a good option, classic tiles are great for adding colours, features and functionality.
Vertical stacking
If smaller tiles are your preference, go for rectangle shapes, stacked vertically. This look works fantastically to make ceilings feel higher and is ideal for cloakrooms or smaller rooms.
Surface drenching
This means using the same tile finish for walls and floor. The style lends itself to larger sized tiles as the idea is to give the space an endless feel. It can be a great way to make a room feel both spacious and embracing all at once. Plus, with larger tiles and fewer grout lines, cleaning is much more straightforward.
Patterns
As people become more adventurous in their bathroom design, the coming year is likely to see a move towards more patterned tiling. From the natural grains of marble tiles to art deco and retro ‘60s styles, more people want to put their individual stamp on their bathroom.
Lighting
A key part of any bathroom design, lighting is another feature which can support the sense of luxury in the room. Far from being limited to functional ceiling LEDs, the lighting for your bathroom refit should work in multiple layers to build ambience.
Natural light
If possible, it’s as important as ever to maximise the natural light coming into your bathroom. This may mean choosing reflective surfaces and mirrors, or minimising any window dressing.
Warmth
Once again, the design trend is focussed on building warmth. Lighting should come from different levels, and provide a glow rather than a stark spotlight. Integrated lighting is ideal here, whether it is fitted into recessed shelves, illuminated mirrors, or underneath cabinets or surfaces.
Of course, the key to using trends for inspiration is to not try to follow everything! Choose one or bathroom design trends that you like and go from there. For guidance and help in bringing it all together, just get in touch with us at Stone and Chrome.
