Pantries are back in fashion again!
For much of the 20th century, pantries were a key feature of many homes in the UK. The word pantry is based on the French word for bread – pain. A French paneterie was a place to store staple foods such as bread, flour and preserves.
Many homes also had larders, which were cold rooms where perishable goods such as meat, fish and dairy could be stored.
Whilst the function of larders has largely been replaced by fridges and freezers, savvy homeowners are rediscovering the appeal of pantries.
This was particularly the case during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many people’s shopping habits changed – particularly during the first lockdown – to doing larger shops less frequently. Which increased the need for suitable storage space, especially for supplies of non-perishable foods.
In this article we share a few examples of different kinds of pantries that you may want to consider for your kitchen.
A walk-in pantry
The pantry picture below is many peoples’ dream pantry! Not only does it have plenty of storage space for food items, but it also features a fabulous gin dresser unit, an amazing Caple wine fridge, and also a wine rack.
It also proves that storage can be practical yet still look so stylish! Painted in calming, on-trend, Farrow & Ball Studio Green this pantry is also an inviting place to spend a bit of time. In fact, it is almost too good just be used for storage! It could easily become the perfect place to hide away for a while?
We can also create smaller walk-in pantries, such as the one pictured in the first image below. Even though it is smaller than the above pantry, there is still a considerable amount of storage space. Plus the wine fridge of course. And you realise how unobtrusive it is when you spot the entrance to this pantry in the far left corner of the second image.
Large pantry cupboard
If you need a large pantry but don’t want it as a separate walk-in room, then take a look at the images below. They feature our stunning Griffith pantry cupboard, the statement piece in a stunning handmade beaded kitchen.
This pantry cupboard has bifold doors at either side, smoked oak internal shelving and drawers, and spice racks in the doors. All adding up to providing the perfect combination of storage and style.
Smaller pantry cupboard
Even if you are limited on space, you can still enjoy the benefits of a pantry cupboard. At Stone and Chrome all our kitchens are handmade from solid timber and we can design a bespoke pantry cupboard to fit your exact sizing requirements.
The images below feature an in-frame shaker kitchen with a smaller bespoke pantry cupboard. The first image shows the kitchen with the pantry cupboard doors closed, then the image below shows the internals of the pantry. We can customise these in whatever way you want us to for your own particular needs.
